27 List: December Update

I’m so excited to post my first update, I’ve made quite a few plans for the tasks so far on the list and I’ve had some thoughts about more things I would like to add.

1. Make a 3 tiered cake a la Sweetapolita I’m in full planning mode for this one. I have just ordered some tins and a piping bag. I’m making a pink and blue themed cake for my friends baby shower mid-January. This is going to be a massive challenge to my baking and icing skills, doing a practice run next week.

2. Watch the entire series of Sex and the City – Season 1 down, loving the old school quaintness, back when waxing and dildos were cutting edge.

3. Write at least 27 more blog entries

4. See The Book of Mormon theatre show

5. Create a star constellation scarf

6. Host friends for a grown up dinner party

7. Make French macaroons – My lovely boyfriend has given me a macaroon making book for Christmas, I’m circling the pistachio flavour as my first priority.

8. Plan a travel trip to Morocco

9. Make lolly infused vodka

10. Knit a peggy square blanket, maybe like this

11. Try out dance classes – I’m doing salsa classes! I went to a few in 2014 and will start afresh in the new year.

12. Run a 10K cancer research race

13. Make salted caramel as gifts

14. Develop a uniform work wardrobe of at least 8 outfits

15. Go to see an inspirational speaker (like a Ted Talk)

16. Take a DSLR camera course

17. Read these books – The Colour Purple, The Kite Runner, The Robber Bride….

18. Make gimmick tea bag craft idea for friends

19. Hike along the White Cliffs of Dover

20. Move into a 1 bed flat with Ben

21. Stay at/visit a National Trust site

22. See a netball match, hopefully to support New Zealand.

23. Have a cocktail at the Ritz

24. Climb Snowdon Mountain, Wales

….. Just 3 more to go!

13. Make salted caramels as gifts

201412 From my phone 521

I made these yummy and easy caramels as Christmas gifts for the lovely ladies in my netball team. We had brunch last Sunday and I gave them out with my favourite gingerbread cookies.

I made this recipe twice. The first time I didn’t boil them for long enough and forgot the salt. They still tasted good but were more like a fudgey caramel sauce and very messy to eat.

I knew I could do better, so the next day I got my ingredients out again and gave it another go. I followed the recipe really closely (not my usual style) and was less cautious about the boiling process (I was really stressed about burning the sugar in my first attempt) and the results were better. I still would have liked them a bit firmer, and if I attempt these again I think it will have to be with a candy thermometer, but for my first foray into boiled sweets I’m happy with the results and my friends loved them.

First task completed, yay!

21.   this is a work in progress…

This list was inspired by a chat with one of my best friends. She blogs at Hello I’m KD and constantly inspires me. She also introduced me to A Beautiful Mess, a blog of ideas I literally always want to try, and coincidentally feature heavily in this list.

27 while 27

I started this blog around my birthday. In fact the goal was to go live before my 27th birthday and, being the procrastinator that I am, this meant my blog went live exactly on my 27th birthday. I took the day off work, researched blog hosting sites, settled on a domain name and clicked the publish button all before rushing out the door to meet my friends for celebration drinks.

Done. Goal achieved, I had taken the first step.

I then populated a few more posts, tinkered around with the layout and themes a little and quickly lost momentum. Fail.

So in an attempt to revive my blog and complete one of the 27 things on my year’s to do list, I am going to blog my way through these 27 goals for the year. Some of them are big, some are expensive and some are really time consuming, but I hope all are achievable and all will help me grow, meet people and mark my 27th year with accomplishments.
